September 2009

Taboo has rebounded. Yes it is only because Adonis closed, so then Taboo absorbed most of the dancers and customers from that bar, who were originally Taboo's dancers and customers ANYWAY... There is a healthy roster of 15-20 twinks on the weekends. Weekdays are another thing, as early in the week there can be as little as two (2) dancers. The place needs some money inside and outside. Outside: paint job and replacing the Taboo signs (only one of three is still up). Inside: tables, chairs, light system, stage... Private dances are fixed at $12 a song in an open salon, which is stupid considering Stock Bar and Campus offer $10 open curtain dances in separate booths. Drinks are overpriced compared to other strip bars. A "REV" is $8 in Taboo, anywhere else is $6.50. Domestic beer is $5.50 (usually $4.50). So yeah, try buying rounds for four in this place. Whereas in another bar $20 will suffice for the round and the tip, at Taboo you will pay +$25 for the same round.

the world's best strip club

I've been visiting Taboo for over ten years. It is an amzing place. It has changed over the years, usually for the better. My last visit was in May of 2009, just after the new owners had taken over so it was in a state of flux. Virtually all of the old dancers were gone, and for many it was about time, they were well into their thirties and there are other clubs for guys that age. Taboo is for youn guys (dancer's, not patrons). In May there were fewer dancers (and customers) than usual, but they were choice, especially Dusty and his cousin who's name I don't remember. I take issue with some of the other reviews. I have never encountered an unclean dancer or one that tried to scam or cheat me. They invariably go out of their way to avoid any hint of that type of thing and they wouldn't last long if they didn't. Sure I've been hustled for drinks and dances, but that's part of the fun. All you have to do is say no. These kids are not paid, they earn only tips and dance fees, which are extraordinarily modest. Where else can you feel up kids for ten bucks, or is it twelve now? I don't like each and every dancer but there are always plenty to like. So do go to Taboo (and the other clubs, there's one for every taste. And please, tip the dancers, they get bare assed and shake it all for you, so stick a five in their sock if they ahve a sock. Stick it somewhere. You'll be amazed at how friendly the dancers can be for a little token of appreciation.

R.I.P Taboo

Went to Taboo on Sunday night the day of the Pride parade - first time back in 4+ years…what a disappointment! While the name of the bar has been removed from the outside and the inside of the bar did have some renovations since my last visit, like new paint, updated restroom, a glass-enclosed shower (that I never saw being used that night or the following Wednesday night) next to the stage, and the DJ booth moved from behind the stage to the opposite side of the room, next to the entrance to the back rooms. However, the seating doesn’t seem to have even been cleaned since the last time I was there! But the most distressing change was in the dancers: NO MORE TWINKS! :( With one or two exceptions, the dancers were either too old, or too flabby, to be considered twinks, or even to be stripping! There were a couple in-shape guys, but even they were well past their twink-expiration date. And only one even seemed to be enjoying himself or at least trying to give the customers a show worth seeing; the others’ cocks were as limp as their bodies were flabby. And during my Wednesday visit, one of the dancers even kept his pants on during his whole first number! It’s too bad, too, since Taboo used to be THE destination in Montreal, if not all of North America, where one could go to see hot twinks stripping down to their birthday suits in front of full houses of grateful customers. No more twinks stripping in any Montreal bars, and it seems fewer gay strip bars, too. I only saw two along Ste. Catherine Street, Stock and another whose name I didn’t see and both had posters in front advertising their beefcake, jock-type dancers. (It’s said that Unity has twinks, but only on weekends and I think it’s primarily a dance bar, not a strip bar.) Guess it’s reflective of the Village in general - lots of empty buildings that used to contain bars for varying tastes now closed and boarded-up. Sad. So, if you’re planning on going to Montreal just to see hot twinks strip, look some place else because that era seems to be gone.

Bartender and Mgr are TOPS, Dancer was noodle scam

I drank all night at this bar and had a great time with Kumar and another angelic bartender - they bought me a drink! What a wonderful group of guys. Then there was the Ukranian dancer who had no accent, no noodle and I had to wipe his ass with a paper towel to avoid swamp-ass - no air conditioning! I regret the dance - they were scammers and I'm lucky to have avoided having my credit card lifted. Dusty is poison disguised as candy. He was a mistake.

This is the spot!

When you visit Montreal, make this place your main stop ! The boys are young, hot, friendly, and great dancers. They give you a great show on stage and show you everything posssible from every angle ! Best part is they come on stage all boned up and totaly nude...only in Montreal have I seen that. Ok they have a no touch rule...but you can cheat a little...just play smart. You can sit with a dancer and talk and touch the rest of their body even before you go to the back room. Some will allow touching thier crotch as long as they are wearing undies . They are sweet and very friendly.
