Hotel Place Dupuis Montreal Downtown (Closed Permanently)

(19 Ratings)
The only large hotel in the Village
Hotel Gouverneur in Montreal doesn't look like much from the outside -- it's basically a big cement block. But it's clean, and amazingly well situated in the Village. It takes the guess work out of staying in gay Montreal, but it does not measure up in charm to the many B&B's in the area -- or the Boutique hotels a bit further away. Enjoy the sports club or the international cuisine, including a Mediterranean lunch buffet.

NOT the Place to Stay!

If you're choosy about quality, as I am, do not consider this hotel nor listen to the previous reviews, as I did. Very dated hotel and not a 4 star as touted on their website. Yes it is clean, but if you're looking for a nice hotel, I would not choose this one. I would compare it to an old Holiday Inn before upgrades. Web access is very important to me, and their wifi access was like I was living in 1983. While being located in the Village near all the nightlife, it's pretty dicy outside the door. I would recommend looking at other hotels that are not too much further away, in a good neighborhood and much nicer, like Hotel Opus.

The brunch on Sundays is really good.

I have never slept at this hotel. Nevertheless, I have been there several times for the brunch on Sundays. The food is both diversified and delicious. The price is honest not exaggerated at all. The customer service is professionnal. In all, good value.

Convenient Location and Excellent Value

This is not a gay hotel, but it is VERY gay friendly. Given its location in Montreal's Gay Village, many of the guests are gay. The rooms are nicely furnished and the hotel is very clean. Employees are polite and friendly. The hotel's restaurant is convenient for breakfast (or whatever), but it isn't very exciting. Room prices are excellent. The huge draw for my partner and me was the location. We could walk out the back door and be at Campus or Stock Bar in minutes. Or we could walk out to one of the hip, reasonably priced restaurants on Rue Ste. Catherine. We would definitely return to the Gouverneur.

The Place to Stay

If your visit centers on the Gay Village, this is the place to stay. It is convenient to the restaurants and bars, has a great friendly staff and is very reasonably priced. The French culture is most friendly to gay visitors.

Extremely convenient

Located at Place Dupuis, it is the ideal jumping off spot for Rue St. Catherine debauchery. Mainstream it may be, but as with most places in Montreal, completly gay-neutral, and an excellent value.
