Great place, nice music, friendly bartenders, always there on thursdays and sundays 5@7 :)
Irrespective guys
The manager called me a twink who should leave now. He removed my chair (!) at 3:05 am just because I hadn't finish my beer (that they served with pleasure 10 mins ago). He pushed me out of the bar while my friend was complaining about the absurd situation and didn't care about me or my friend. Never spend your money there.
Friendly with a touch of leather kink!
I loved going to L'Aigle Noir (Black Eagle), as it had been years since visiting Montreal. The bartenders were handsome and attentive and the bar itself was neat and tidy with loads of space to romp. Moreover, the music wasn't TOO loud and you could actually hold a conversation with others!
Fails and suggestions: On super-busy nights, they need to limit the number of people in the bar -- preferably with a leather dress code (hey, it's a leather bar, right?)
Frankly, it was TOO HOT and TOO CROWDED on Saturday and Sunday nights. Thinning the "heard" with a capacity and/or dress code would have kept me there longer. It was too hot and I couldn't get to the bar, so I left when it got busy. I know many other that also left because of this. Don't fret too much, many other bars are having the opposite problem and are in danger of closing.
All-in-all, great location, great staff, great place! I'll be back!
TERRIBLE/VIOLENT
I cannot give it a lower rating because gaycities won't allow it.
PLEASE: DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY/TIME IN THIS DISGUSTING ESTABLISHMENT.
Nothing stands to mind when it comes to this place but the extremely aggressive manner of the night bouncer. Go here if your idea of customer service/appreciation is being violently pushed out the door and then pushed off again when demanding an explanation.
I was so displeased, insulted and harassed by the staff that I waited 30 min for the police to come after I called 911. They, of course, sided with the bar and claimed it was normal "bar" behaviour.
In my opinion these people should be absolutely ashamed of the treatment they give their generous patrons and I will never give them another penny. This bar is nothing but a disgusting sham of a gay bar where if you look at someone the wrong way you will be pushed aside (LITERALLY).
Think twice before you sponsor bullying and harassment, and hopefully never come here anymore.
dress right but map wrong
Comes up on map in a total different part of area It is actually very close to apollon. Maybe just might phone Go by house number. Easy to find
What a bunch of fucking assholes...
I walked in and sat at the bar early one Saturday evening shortly after dinner waiting for another three of my friends to show up, it took fifteen minutes and me yelling "HEY" at the bartender because he was too busy speaking to his friends to be bothered to do his job. Arrogant, hipster, tattooed pricks behind the bar that deliver attitude as though you should pay to look at them because they have hoola hoops through their ear lobes and are under 30. Nothing like it used to be. Lose the name Eagle/Aigle and replace it with "French Bastard" or "Pretentious Asshole Bar" (en Francais bien sur) it would be much more accurate. Stay away if you're a leather or fetish enthusiast this is not an Eagle Bar anymore.
Leather-not
Okay bartender Steve was sexy. that was the end of the experience, it's not an "Eagle" bar, it feel outa place in chaps and leathers. The windows onto Rue Ste-Catherine are huge and whole place is way too bright, name yeas leather no. Stud is better marginally
Bar aigle noir
Stay away from this place if you are a tourist
I went to have a beer with a friend, who was visiting from Swden and likes this type of bars and probably I will never go back. The bartenders are rude and arrogant, even more so if you are a tourist. We were taken aback by the level of hostility of one of the bartenders when we ordered a second round of beers in English...then he was making fun of us with other bartenders and some clients because of our conversation in German..to which my friend (who speaks five languages and works as an interpreter at the European Union in Brussels) replied in perfect French and ask the guy to stop being so fucking obnoxious...we left immediately...no tip...never comig back
A SLAP IN THE FACE TO THE LEATHER AND FETISH COMMUNITY
PURE FUCKING BLASPHAMY....I'm part of a strong leather community across North America that has come down for the last twenty years to Montreal and would end up at the Aigle Noir for our events, this new owner essentially spit on everything we've worked hard to associate and establish with the bar for two decades by turning into a yuppie hangout overnight and disrespecting the name AIGLE NOIR/BLACK EAGLE a traditional name for Gay Leather Bars situated worldwide. I would strongly recommend that the leather community petition to have the name changed and not step foot in the place at the same time. It's a shame that no one IN THE LEATHER SCENE was offered an opportunity to take the bar over FIRST BEFORE THE YUPPIFICATION destroyed twenty years of history, culture and tradition. Not pleased at all.
THIS ISN'T THE AIGLE NOIR ANYMORE
THE AIGLE NOIR HAS NOW BEEN GENTRIFIED BY THE NEW OWNER. Here's what happens when a classic LEATHER BAR is sold to a new owner that just doesn't get it. It looses it's identity and appeal and alienates the previous twenty five years of clientelle. I walked into the Aigle Noir last weekend and could barely recognize the place the interior has changed from a TRUE LEATHERBAR (Dark, foreboding, masculine and clandestine) into an urban modern designed, BRIGHTLY LIT, douchebag hang out consisting mainly of upper middle class BEARS and (probably) friends of the new owner. It's sad that they've fucked with the old theme and turned it into what it is, it would be honorable of them to change the name and leave a legacy intact and remembered for what it was originally...(but we all know that won't happen.)
Decent leather bar
It's a little on the quiet side, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Attracts a nice enough crowd and the staff are very pleasant both to deal with and... yes, look at. It is one for the more faithful leather crowd though. Guys with a more casual interest will probably prefer Stud. Would give a 3 and a half rating if I could :)
