La Mie Matinale Inc

Cozy boulangerie and cafe

For some local flavor, ditch the coffee chains and check out this independent bakery/cafe. The pastries are made on-site, and the smell alone is enough to cozy up at a corner table.

the best secret in the village

The best " Casse-Croûte " for lunchtime and the best pastries on Ste-Catherine street.

Change attitude

I have there to buy bread a couple of times and never again. Usually service is cold and on the verge of being "suffisant" but the last time, the employee had an attitude and I don't need this. There are many places to buy good bread in this city and I hate to have the impression I am bothering. Even if I come in just a couple of minutes before closing time. (What is it in the village with the attitude ? Is it me or ??)... Bread is very good though. Review is not for the bread, but for the service and the attitude in general... I shall go back before the end of the summer and check out if my review is too harsh.... Oh ! and by the way: Am french so it is not the language !

It´s the attitude, it´s the rude staff...it´s both

Decent food...a bit over-priced and crappy customer service. The place is located in the gay Village so you can expect lots of attitude from the staff. One of the owners (I guess) waits on tables as if he hated his job. Don't even dare to say a word in English or you will have to face the consequences, so if you are a tourist and do not speak perfect French you might want to go and spend your money somewhere else but here. The are plenty of places in Montreal where to eat good food, with reasonable prices, decent customer service and where you can speak the international language and the other official language of Canada.....that means ENGLISH.

It's the Food, No the Atmosphere, Wait, it's Both!

Although within sight of three coffee "chains," after finding this gem, we never went anywhere else. All baking is done daily on-site by co-owner Didier Eme, a French baker, originally from Nice. Baguettes, croissants, sandwiches and soups were our favorites, but there are also an array of sinful pastries, cakes and chocolate treats. If you're visiting during soup season be sure to have the house-made soup du jour - I partook daily. For best service, know, or feign knowledge of Dalida before visiting. Even if you're only having coffee, co-owner Regis Menetrey (a French-Swiss Nathan Lane), makes La Mie Matinale worth the trip.
