Mixed Feelings

The place was really quite nice. The amenities were great, the breakfast was good, and the cook was a very sweet guy. The owner, however, was quite gruff and not really friendly. So even though I liked the place, his attitude turned me off. I would not go back.

Wonderful b+b in heart of the gay village

I'm no great fan of Montreal's gay village, although it's great fun sitting on a restaurant terrace watching the endless strolling Vanity Fair parade of all shapes, ages and sizes. But what I love is the Sir Montcalm b+b, which by itself is the best reason to go to Montreal. The rooms are gorgeous, and there's a huge beautifully renovated private lounge with a beautiful fire in cold weather, a separate entrance for guests, and Andre, a great host who is extremely helpful but also knows when to stay out of the way when he's not needed. The breakfasts at a counter or table overlooking the garden are also great. The Sir Montcalm is so great that you may never bother to stray away from the two or three blocks around it except to get to and from the airport.

Conde Nast Traveler Quality

I've stayed in many B&B's around the world, and I have to say that renting the lower apartment here was fantastic - full size refrigerator, complete kitchen, dining room, living room, large bedroom, multiple TV's, bedroom with a huge 4-person walk-in shower, and all adjacent to a charming patio, and beautiful garden. Excellent top-quality hand-cooked breakfast, and drinks in the refrigerator when I arrived. Some problems with wireless internet. Very close to Sainte-Catharine Street, and easy walking distance to all major gay venues. A Keeper.
