This year the festival has expanded the depth and reach of its free daytime programming at the Phi Centre. Geared towards curious explorers, music enthusiasts, and creative professionals, this crucial component of the festival furthers critical discourse through thoughtful, intimate interviews with artists and creators, hands-on interaction with the latest technologies, workshops dedicated to visual software and practices, industry insights and presentations, and by creating opportunities for the community at large to network and converse. HOLO Magazine and CreativeApplications.Net’s Greg J. Smith will interview Fox about his recent collaboration with Atom™ (aka Uwe Schmidt) and his broader practice. Espace D 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM Q&A: RESIDENT ADVISOR presents MACHINE LOVE LIVE with ATOM™ (CL) Resident Advisor's Machine Love feature takes its readers inside the studios of top producers. For Machine Love Live at MUTEK 2015, Atom™ will perform selections from and discuss the inner workings his HD A/V live show. WORKSHOP: Creative Learning within ABLETON LIFE with MILES WHITTAKER (UK) The basis for this presentation revolves around creative learning within Ableton Live. Miles Whittaker (DEMDIKE STARE, MILLIE & ANDREA) will show you how you can change the rules in order to produce more interesting ways of working within the program. Using very little input (a single kick drum!), he will lead you outside the usual frameworks for producing electronic music. Though the actual presentation will be relatively short, it's designed this way to open up the session for questions, discussion and participation. This workshop is relevant to beginners and also to seasoned users. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ SATURDAY, MAY 30 ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Rhino 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM WORKSHOP: KILPATRICK AUDIO Designing and creating electronic instruments is within the grasp of anyone with enough passion and desire to do so. In this talk Andrew Kilpatrick presents the story of how he got started making musical equipment. He hope to encourage and inspire others to do the same. 1:30 PM - 2:00 PM WORKSHOP: ELEKTRON Workshop based around using hardware electronic musical instruments in both studio production as well as in live performance environments. 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM WORKSHOP: Using synthetizers in live performances with VERBOS ELECTRONICS Electronic Musician and Synth Builder, Mark Verbos of VERBOS ELECTRONICS will explain how he has done live performances, since 1992. He will also discuss the possible ways of integrating synthesizers in live performance, including how some other people do it. He’ll show how doing a performance using sequencers is different from being in a “band". 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM WORKSHOP: Working with TIPTOP AUDIO modules TIPTOP AUDIO comes to MUTEK to work with musicians and help them understand the uniqueness of the TIPTOP modular, the world first and only all analog modular system designed for composing finished tracks. Espace D 2:15 PM - 3:30 PM PANEL: Art and Craft: Epiphany, Technology, Creation This panel will take subordinate the technical side of making music and art to the musical and artistic side. Instead of starting from "what did you use?" and "how did you do that?" we will start with epiphanies — moments of realization about the nature of creative work and the techniques within it — moments that changed the how and the why of creative process, the rythmn of work, collaboration vs. working alone, and the quest for improvement and refinement.
