Born in Soviet Union era of Russia, a daughter of Russian father and Ukrainian mother, I was grown during “perestroika”.
From a very young age I had a passion for all things artistic: drawing, crafts, writing, dance, and fashion design. I started studying art and fashion during chaos in my country when it was falling apart, dreaming to become a fashion designer. Overwhelmed, but inspired by massive changes in the country, I had an opportunity to move to China to study. I graduated from Heilongjiang University in Harbin, China with Bachelor’s Degree in Arts. Lived for 10 years in China, worked as a professional translator for Mandarin and Russian, travelling all over Russia and Asia. Moved to Canada in 2005 and started my 3rd Degree in Therapeutic Recreation. Currently, I am a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist working full time and simultaneously developing as an artist.
My contemporary painting style is a combination of expressionism and surreal images. Also, I like to use a variety of materials and products in my multimedia creations. I like to rebel against reality logic and rules, creating overly perfectionized characters in surreal environments. I start my art with emotion and idea and then I let my art introduce its idea and emotion to me. I would describe my art as interactive and reciprocal relationship. I paint what I feel, what I think, it’s my internal world, it’s my own reality even though sometimes it becomes bizarre, weird and surreal. My art is who I am, and I am what my art is.
