This bar has known better days. The new American owner is not precisely well seen in Montreal's gay community. He is rude with customers and the personnel. Long time ago, the concept of Taboo was mainly 'twinks' and dancers who look like very young (but weren't), which make the place a real 'taboo' and gain the bar a visit from the Police. There's been all kind of dancers and managers, they have come and gone. Ariel, David, Samuel, Jacques, all gone. Since L'Adonnis closed, it has recovered some customers. Never had a problem with a dancer myself, au contraire, I've seen many customers behaving like idiots. It is true that these kids they don't get paid for this. There are no longer places where a lap dance cost you less than $20 and the dancer doesn't feel like a movie star. I hope some day the place recover the glory from previous days. Still too overpriced.

Taboo has rebounded. Yes it is only because Adonis closed, so then Taboo absorbed most of the dancers and customers from that bar, who were originally Taboo's dancers and customers ANYWAY...
There is a healthy roster of 15-20 twinks on the weekends. Weekdays are another thing, as early in the week there can be as little as two (2) dancers.
The place needs some money inside and outside. Outside: paint job and replacing the Taboo signs (only one of three is still up). Inside: tables, chairs, light system, stage...
Private dances are fixed at $12 a song in an open salon, which is stupid considering Stock Bar and Campus offer $10 open curtain dances in separate booths. Drinks are overpriced compared to other strip bars. A "REV" is $8 in Taboo, anywhere else is $6.50. Domestic beer is $5.50 (usually $4.50). So yeah, try buying rounds for four in this place. Whereas in another bar $20 will suffice for the round and the tip, at Taboo you will pay +$25 for the same round.

I've been visiting Taboo for over ten years. It is an amzing place. It has changed over the years, usually for the better. My last visit was in May of 2009, just after the new owners had taken over so it was in a state of flux. Virtually all of the old dancers were gone, and for many it was about time, they were well into their thirties and there are other clubs for guys that age. Taboo is for youn guys (dancer's, not patrons). In May there were fewer dancers (and customers) than usual, but they were choice, especially Dusty and his cousin who's name I don't remember. I take issue with some of the other reviews. I have never encountered an unclean dancer or one that tried to scam or cheat me. They invariably go out of their way to avoid any hint of that type of thing and they wouldn't last long if they didn't. Sure I've been hustled for drinks and dances, but that's part of the fun. All you have to do is say no. These kids are not paid, they earn only tips and dance fees, which are extraordinarily modest. Where else can you feel up kids for ten bucks, or is it twelve now? I don't like each and every dancer but there are always plenty to like. So do go to Taboo (and the other clubs, there's one for every taste. And please, tip the dancers, they get bare assed and shake it all for you, so stick a five in their sock if they ahve a sock. Stick it somewhere. You'll be amazed at how friendly the dancers can be for a little token of appreciation.

don't know what all the criticism is about. Taboo isn't exactly a yuppie, upscale bar, but it doesnt claim to be, and as long as it's dark & you don't go to the restroom, it's okay for what it is...a gay twink strip bar. been there twice, once during the x-mas holidays when it was so crowded with "regulars," newcomers couldn't even get a private dance if you asked for one; the other time was in October when it was a lot less crowded, so dancers were asking the customers. the dancers I met were all nice guys, too...they all said they were students of some sort or another - one said he was attending a circus school - wish I could remember all their names, but I only remember 2: "Ariel," and "David" wish I could have had private dances with all of the guys, but $ ran out :( but they were all nice guys. only jerk seemed to be the cute hung blond, I think his name was "Max," but he was the hottest guy there, knew it, and acted like he knew it...no mingling with customers, only the other guys...
also seems that there are a bunch of "regulars" that the guys know must be good tippers, so they naturally get more attention than strangers to the bar, especially if they buy the guys rounds of champagne ;) lol
btw, dancers do 2 on-stage dances...one where they strip to naked and are soft, then another several minutes later where they come out naked & hard...never got to find out how they get hard backstage, but would love to be their fluffer if thats the way they do it ;) probably the DJ gives them the pre-show bj ;) lol
will definitely go back next time in MTL! ;)

I drank all night at this bar and had a great time with Kumar and another angelic bartender - they bought me a drink! What a wonderful group of guys. Then there was the Ukranian dancer who had no accent, no noodle and I had to wipe his ass with a paper towel to avoid swamp-ass - no air conditioning! I regret the dance - they were scammers and I'm lucky to have avoided having my credit card lifted. Dusty is poison disguised as candy. He was a mistake.
